What is the first thing I need to do to get my insurance license?

As stated earlier, requirements to get licensed will vary by state. Some states will have educational requirements, while others will allow you to just take the exam without any requirements.

How much does it cost to get licensed? Here are some of the costs that can be incurred when obtaining your license. These costs will vary depending on your states requirements.
Prelicensing requirements: $79 – $299 depending on whether you have to attend a live classroom insurance training class or if you can satisfy the hours required by your state online.

Applying for your license: expect to pay anywhere from $50 – $150. In Texas you can apply for your license online at www.sircon.com. You will need to have already completed your fingerprints and have the receipt on hand when you are completing your application. You can complete this process even before you take your state exam.

As you can see, the initial investment to get your new career started is quite reasonable compared to other careers you may get in to. Once you are licensed you can expect to earn between $40k – $150k depending on how much hard work you want to put into it.
